Your export never leaves this computer. This page reads it in your browser and uploads nothing. It keeps a copy of the parsed messages in this browser so it opens instantly next time (you can remove it with the × above). Post previews load straight from Instagram, like an embedded post on any website.

How to get your export

In Instagram go to Settings → Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information.
Choose Download or transfer information, pick your Instagram account, then Some of your information and tick Messages.
Choose Download to device. Set the Date range you want, Format: JSON (not HTML), and Media quality: Low to keep it small.
Tap Create files. When Instagram emails you, download the ZIP and drop it above. No need to unzip.
